My motor took a crap in my 68 camaro now im looking into getting the zz383 crate motor. my old motor was a solid cam and it had a nice lope to it. I hear cars with zz383 on youtube and they dont sound to aggresive. I was wondering what would be a good cam choice for some aggresive lope and a increase in power. I like the sound of the thumpr cams but not sure which to get.

These zz motors are mostly stock with hydra roller cams. Might check with the selling dealer for cam selection as I don't think you have many options from gm.
Last zz383 short block I did for a friend we did change cams but it did not have the thumper sound you are looking for.
The cam we used was supplied by lunati for us as there were no new cores available then.
This is a steel billet cam. I may have the part number somewhere. But not a potatoe-potatoe sounding cam.
Forgot to mention we ordered the 425hp version of zz383.

ZZ383's are meant for street cars. Being that they don't know what the customer is going to put them in, they make it as street friendly as possible. Installing a larger cam for the noise you are looking for will take away engine vacuum, if you are not running power brakes its not a big deal.

I have a similar engine and we can install a lopey cam that will perform, not just make noise like the thumper cams. PM me if you are interested.

had this motor in my car for just under three years now. don't think you will find a better deal for a motor with all good parts and strong warranty. i posted a video of my car idling a few weeks ago on youtube if you want to listen. i found them on racing junk originally but did lots of homework before going ahead. you can find them on facebook as well where they show all the current motor builds for clients.
