I ran L-60's on my car on Fenton 14" x 9"'s, w/ 3.50" b/s by raising my rearend up using coil-overs about 4" or so!!
Fwiw, I still have them mounted up on the shelf in my garage along with my E-60's on matching 7" rims. Talk about an old-school rake!!
My old L's measure a MODERN 298/53-14!!! So sure aren't 60 series at all!! Big mutha's they are w/ an 11.5" section width!!!!
PS., If you relocate the rear shock's bottom mount either up or in, you can gain about 1.25" or maybe a schosh more to allow them to go IN under the fenders better on our '67/'68 cars!!! This isn't needed w/ 17" rim's b/c they fit inside the rims so the wheel can locate in farther!!!
Wow, that brings back some memories. L60-14...I bougth a pair of used one's from a buddy of mine back in 1991 or was it 1992. They were JC Penney Scat Trac 60's. I think they came off his 1969 Mach I Mustang. Yes I put used tires from a Ford on my Chevy, so what!!...Those things were probably almost as old as the 1969 Camaro I had. I had these on stock 14x6 Chevy Rally's which my car came with.
They will fit but you really should have at least a 7 or 8 inch inch wide wheel. I used to do alot of crazy stuff that was not recommended back then....But then again I was 21 when I bought that car and 23 years of age in 1991 so I did alot of dumb stuff then, including selling the car at 26 years of age in 1994.
The bottom line: You can put them on stock rims. They should clear a 1968 if they will clear a 1969. You can get more tire in the back of a 1968 that you can a 1969 from what I have seen. You can keep the stock backspacing but I would suggest 14x7 SS wheels at least.
Back again, I have ran 9.50/14 Firestone Town&Country, Mud&Snow tires on my stock, 14" x 6" painted steel rims, but i had to raise my rearend up right at 4" or so using shock coil-over, overload helper springs b/c they rubbed the whole top inside if I didn't...
They are 29.5" tall w/ an about 9" wide section width so they are tall and skinny, something like an 85 or maybe a 90 sectioned tire vs a 60 tire, I just never ran the numbers to find out is all.
I could just get a finger between both the front bottom and rear bottom sheetmetal, that's how close they are!!
Speedometer went from 70mph to 82 at the same rpm so they are really good for high-speed, topend charges..
This thread reminds me of the tires/rims i ran on my 68 firebird back in the mid 80's.
i used Super Star N-50-15's on cragar sst's 15x10's, yes it was jaked up big time to clear those big ol meats :thumbsup:
the best part about em was airing them down to 12 psi and using partail peddle with the line lock to rip off some 1/2 mile smokie burn outs.
Tires didnt last long but you couldnt wipe the grin off my face.....:yes:
