I purchased this 68 Camaro SS Restomod, back in 2016, when I was in the US. It was restored by the original owner and then was sold to a dealership in Long Island, which I then purchased from.

The dealership did not know all the details and work that was done to the car, I also have little knowledge on classic muscles (my first classic).But I just fell in-love with it.

Below is what the car came with:

  • Fully-restored 350ci engine (2,500 miles)
  • Holley Carburetor
  • 4-speed Muncie
  • Hurst shifter
  • Classic Instrument G/stock Gauges
  • Upgraded brakes (unknown)
  • American Racing AR105 Torq Thrust 17x8
  • KYB Gas-a-Just Shocks
  • Stock front springs w/spacer
  • Multi Leaf springs (unknown)
  • Pypes X-pipe
  • Pypes Stree ProMufflers (Unknown if 2" or 3")
  • Cowl Induction Hood (2" i think)
  • OER Injection front spoiler
  • Detroit Speed Closeout Panel
  • Custom 2-tone Paint-job
  • Sumitomo HTRZII 235/45/17 & 270/40/17
Last year, I decided to start my LS2 build. I found a good mechanic who was able to find the needed parts and work on it. The build took longer than expected due to usual hiccups and surprises after stripping down a car. The car runs so much better now, much more reliable compared to a carb'd engine choking every mile lol.

Might've missed a few parts there.

For now, I plan to keep my builds in phases (mostly due to budget). I'll be looking into the following next, in stages.

Tires: (Status: In-Progress)
Goal: Street Driving Summers, keeping an "aggressive" rear look
  • Looking for either NT555 G2 or BFG G force
  • Front: 235/45/17
  • Rear: 245/45 or 255/45

Suspension: (Status: In-Progress)
Goal: I'd love to go one shot with a full kit, like RideTech StreetGrip, however I'm not able to at the moment. Planning to get some parts now, for better and smoother street driving. RideTech confirmed that their Shocks and Springs fit directly, no required components needed

  • RideTech Front Springs 2"

Front Disc Brakes: (Status: Pending)
Goal: To upgrade the front brakes (disc kit or caliper only) for better emergency braking.(e.g. being cut off, or sudden traffic stop). With the LS2 now, it's much harder to brake quickly.
  • Either a disc brake kit (Wilwood / Baer)
  • Just a caliper upgrade

I know the feeling on that one! I'm still working on getting my 68 also. hopefully after the trip I'm on I'll be able to make some more progress on mine. :grin2:

Update: Tires.



Finally found tires, went with Nitto 555 G2 235/45 & 245/45. What a ride difference

First of all, ride quality and handling compared to previous 11/10 love it. Shocks are very comfortable, hitting bumps doesn't hurt anymore. The Shocks are currently adjusted toward more firm (8 clicks back from Most Firm setting). Highway cruising , and taking fast corners never felt better.



That being said, I do have some callouts. The front does scrape when hitting uneven surface, don't know how bad that is but i like the ride height in front now. (235/45/17).



The rear height is what's bothering me. It's way higher than front and I prefer to even out the ride height. Similar to the photo of the Camaro on RideTechs website. It appears that I have missed out an additional 1" Lowering kit, which doesn't come in the SG kit. I thought the leafs alone give a 2" drop.



For now, I ordered the Ridetech 1" lowering blocks in the rear, and Global West 3/8" coil spacers upfront, which should lift the car about 3/4". Hopefully this aligns the height well

About your swap, what engine mount are you using?
No tunnel cutting needed?
Yes, thank you ! I'm honestly not sure i din't do the engine install myself. I know they were replaced ill try to find out. and tunnel cutting for the T56 yes..

Updates on my build: Another Suspension Issue + New Parts
  • Problem: Drop Spindles - Driver Sway End Link came off. Hit a pothole. (Thread details here)
  • Solution: Replacing the drop spindles with stock height.
The drop spindles were the main reason of the excess drop, after installing the Ridetech StreetGrip. They were also causing the outer tie rod ends to hit the wheels. Therefore, I ordered stock spindles and the right/supporting parts, e.g. front disc brake kit. (My current brakes are 10.5", and do not fit stock spindles)

Ordered Parts below:
  1. Front Disc Brake 11", Wilwood Dual Piston Calipers (inc. Stock Spindles) (AFXWK32Z)
  2. Ridetech Power Steering Kit (1968-1969 F-body / 1968-1974 X-Body Steering Kit, w/Power Steering)
  3. Steering Arms (1968 CHEVROLET CAMARO Right Stuff Detailing Steering Arms DBSA02)
  4. Ridetech Sway Bar End Links
  5. Vengeance Tailights (BlackOutBattalion)
I'll be removing the 3/8" coil spacers I previously installed to lift the fronts, due to rubbing. I'll re-install the Sway bar, making sure everything is torqued correctly. I'll also check the upper control shims, if any have fallen off etc..

Updates: First package arrived - Calipers & Steering Kit

Just got the Dual Piston Wilwood Calipers in red, Ridetech/Proforged Steering kit (power steering), and Ridetech sway bar end links (replacement after one snapped off)

Pending package: TRSD 11" Rotors & Stock spindles.

Nice car! I appreciate your detail and attention to getting the right stance for your car. It's a pain but a car that doesn't sit right just doesn't look right regardless of the wheels or paint. It should look like it's moving even when it's sitting still.

Thank you! I agree 100% .. had a lot of difficulties with the build.. but no more cutting corners.

UPDATES: Installed New front Disc Brakes, Stock Spindles, Steering Kit & Steering Arms

Finally after the long wait. I've installed the parts..correctly this time with throwing out the 2" drop spindles that caused all these issues, and replacing them with Stock height spindles. Also, 11" front disc brakes, dual piston calipers, Ridetech/Proforged Steering kit, Steering arms. Thank you guys for all the suggestions & support. I can finally drive my Camaro in comfort.

Car sits perfect now: Fronts 25.5" (vs 23.62" prev) - Rear 27.4" (vs 27.95" prev)
