While at dinner last night I overheard a conversation that the older guy at the next table was having on his cell phone. He was talking about cleaning out his garage and getting rid on his stash of camaro parts. After he hung up I asked what he had. Engines, spoilers, carbs, fans, starters ...the list went on. I asked to look at what he had. LOTS OF PARTS! THere was a complete engine on a stand covered in a towell pushed into the far corner of his VERY packed garage. After I dug thur old trim rings, brake drums. spark plug wires ETC, I found a small block engine. This is where the mystery begins.
Casting number 3970010 BUT with a casting date of G768. The stamping pad where the vin and ID number is located is small, only about 2 inches VS the full width of the block. The ID is T817TB. Alternator is on Right side( pass ). I pulled the valve cover. casting number is 482624 with casting date of H88. The casting mark on the front was a mystery too. Heads had the three holes for mounting alt etc but had a 45 degree triangle on the front ( no camel back or other casting mark I was used to seeing). Engine has an aftermarked intake but a q-jet that the guy had no memory of where he got it. numbers on that q-jet are 7059253.
WHAT IS IT.
