Hi Guys,
I have a 67 Camaro with a "74" 350 motor and I believe a long water pump.
Alternator is on the passenger side and I have a 1" space behind the pump.
The motor has a mild cam, high rise manifold with a Edelbrock 650 carb and headers. The pump is leaking slightly from the weep hole and I can grab the fan and wiggle it a bit so I am assuming I need a new pump.
Question is what style and brand of pump? Stock or aftermarket?
I just put in a new 160 thermostat so I don't want to change that again just because I get a high flow pump.
I don't want high flow if I don't need it because up till now I ran about 160 degree's all the time. On the other hand I hear the aftermarket types are built with better bearings and overall quality.
The only thing I can find at NAPA or Autozone are rebuilt which I don't want.
So from what I have read will a Stewart #13113 stage I work with my set up without changing anything else? or any other suggestions are appreciated!

Figure out if a long pump is really what you need or not. In the add below it tells you how to determine if you have a long or short pump.

Here is one that I know is good. I know a guy that has been running one on a wild 355 street and strip for over 4 years. No problems.

Oh, and I think it would be better to run a 180 degree thermostat.

If your alternator is on the passenger side, you'll need a long water pump . I assume you've got a short pump since you are running a 1" spacer. I'd get a long pump, leave the spacers out, and put a 185 or 195 thermostat in it. The engine needs to run warmer to burn off any moisture that builds inside it,

I have a Stewart stage 1 long water pump on my SBC, works well but I did need a spacer between the upper alternator bracket and the pump for it to mount correctly, they sent one for it when I found the problem. Their pump is designed for a 76 to 84 upper alternator bracket mount, but with the spacer it worked just fine. I think most all the rebuilt pumps come with a spacer for this reason now days.

Later I eliminated the need for the spacer when I changed my upper mount to a proform 66176 mount to get it to bolt to the intake correctly (blasted and painted correctly) as this bracket doesn't mount to the water outlet bolt, it mounts to the front of the intake which the Edelbrock RPM Air Gap manifold has ready to use. I have a spacer for the rear of the intake to feed the front to help cool the back cylinders on the 400 block so the stock upper alternator mount wouldn't work.

I you have about 1" of space between timing cover and waterpump...it's a long pump....almost touching the timing cover....short.

Oops.... I read that wrong :clonk:. I thought he had a 1" spacer, not a 1" space. Yeah, sounds like you've already got a long pump. Can you find a rebuild kit for the pump you've got? Sounds like it's already working OK except for the weep.

I have a '67 with your same engine setup and run the Edelbrock aluminum long waterpump. It's been working for many years with no trouble.

Go with a Stewart. Look at their web site to see which one works best for your application. If you don't want high flow, use a Stage I. I put a Stage II in my 68 (350cu in) & it's been great. Why are you running a 160 thermostat vs 180?
