Need help removing radio

I have a 1968 RS with factory air. I just ordered a custom autosound head unit for my car and it's on the way. I started removing the old unit. I popped the knobs off and took the nuts off. The unit is now loose, but there is no where to go with it. How do I get it out??

I've never personally removed one but the manual states to: disconnect all wiring leads, remove all screws and nuts from radio mounts then push the radio forward(towards front of vehicle) until the control shafts clear the inst panel. turn radio upside down (flip it so dial towords front of vehicle) and remove it
There may be a rear strap that needs to be removed.
Then take out the ashtray and remove the ashtray bracket (3 screws, one up into the dash at the top center, 2 thru the bottom of the dash into the arms of the bracket.

Then just push the radio in, it will fall out the bottom.
It does'nt hurt to take out the glove box liner to get some more room to work.

your original question asked what manual - chiltons
I have the radio and ashtray bracket loose, but I can't remove either one due to the A/C ductwork behind it.
