Hey guys, I need your input! I am ready to buy a camaro and I have about $4500. There is a 1968 RS/SS with 12 bolt posi, 4speed, very nice houndstooth interior, and the console guages setup. From all of my books as far as I could tell, everything is original but 1968 is one of the hardest years to find out originality because of the lack of info on the trim tag. The guy wants $4500 for the car. I have already seen it. The catch is that it needs pretty much a whole new body. It needs both rear quarters to be replaced, new door skins, and new front fenders. What I need to know from you guys since you guys are pretty much experts is if it would be worth it to buy it and replace all of these things? Or should I keep looking. Will it ever be worth the money in the future to do this? Will replacing all these parts drop the future price dramatically?

Being that you are from CA. I would think that you could find a rust free one. Unless you are a body man or want to spend 5000 to 7000 to have somebody do all the work I would look for something else. Living in Wisconsin I am forced to buy rusty cars. I would love to find a rust free car that needed a complete interior,a motor and a trans. rebuild. If you spend all the money bring the body back to perfection then you will probally find yourself replacing that (good) interior because the rest of the car looks too good. Just my opinion. Why don't you post a couple of pic's and everybody could give you a better opinion. I would look for something else IMHO. Also If it needs all of that metal replaced it will probaly need floors

i have noticed that the California definition of "everything needs to be replaced" is usually different than the midwest version. what might look like a rusted out hunk of metal to you, is a car that needs a few holes patched up to us. if it has a few little rust holes, or some surface rust, it isn't that hard to replace. out in Cali, you could maybe find a nicer car. up here, what you have might be a rare find. as an example, that chevelle that Goodmark is putting all the new body panels on in Super Chevy because it is "rusted out" would be considered average to real nice around here.
