hey all. my dad got me a new edelbrock 750 for x mas. when we put it on the car the throttle is so stiff! i have no idea why, has anyone els had this problem? im running a holley street dominator single plane intake. is it the space plate that im using? when i go to warm up the car i have to mash the gas 2 or 3 times then try my best to hold it to 1600, its like i have no part throttle. i almost crashed in to my dads truck when i backed it out of the drive way, it like all or nothin when you press the gas. when we hooked the throttle cable to the carb my dad had to drill the hole in the carb bigger for it to fit in the hole. hope i can fix this soon, i havent drove the car for 2 weeks now! thanks guys

A couple things to look for. Did you put the return spring back on and knw it's being streched longer. Is something binding? If you disconnect the cable (cable? mine has linkage) does it move freely by hand? It doesn't sound like it's sticking open, that's why I suggested the return spring. Post back and let us know what it is. Good call in not driving it!

Did you put a spread bore carb on square bore manifold?

im not sure if i have a square bore manifold, but i had to buy a spacer for the carb. i was using a q-jet, so does that mean i have a q-jet manafold? sorry i said cable, mine has linkage too. is the return spring too small? do i need a larger one or did my dad not put it on all the way? i drove it a little today after i cleaned the hell out of the motor, it runs way to rich. i just dont want to have a stiff gas pedel any more. ill keep checking. was it normal that i had to drill the hole larger in the carb for the linkage?

Your throttle linkage should hook to the large hole at the top of the throttle arm. The hole is almost big enough to stick you little finger through.
Use holley grommet and plastic bushing kit. #26-103 for a stock type Camaro throttle linkage.
If your carb has a fairly long throttle arm lower half with the auto trans kickdown hole, hook your return spring there and run it back toward the rear to an anchor bracket.

If your carb is a double pumper and does not have the long lower arm on it hook your return spring to the hole your dad drilled out and run the springs forward to an anchor plate off the intake bolts or water outlet bolt.

I had a friend who had a double pumper and ran the spring off the hole very near the throttle shaft where the plastic accelerator pump cam screws on, he had to stretch it tight to make it close the throttle, when it did open, it popped wide open.
Didn't that carb come with instructions?

Is it possible that the spacer you used is warped ( I have seen more that one like this) and this is making the throttle shafts bind a little? Try loosening the four bolts that hold the carb to the manifold to see if that helps...(with the motor not running). If it helps that the spacer may be part of the problem.
