I just finished the install of my rebuilt 454. I upgraded from points distributor to HEI. When I started the engine I saw some sparking coming from under the cover of the new distributor. When I removed the cover (not the hole distributor cap just the HEI coil cover) when the engine is running the yellow wire going into the coil on the HEI is sparking and arking to the metal around the coil case. Engine seams to run ok but I’m sure if I run it very long it will fry the coil. I connected the ground strap from the coil to the mounting screw in the cap. Is there another ground strap that I should connect or is there a different problem?

Thanks

Found the problem.
Ground strap is not the strap from the coil to the hold down screw. The ground strap is a separate piece that runs from the center post of the cap to the hold down screw. Works great now!
