New Wheel / Tire combination

I've been wanting to change it up some and I'm definitely "Old School". However, looking at so many new wheels and tires on the market now. I kept going back to the same old-school Hot Rod look I LOVE. These are 15x4/15x8 Jegs Sport Stars with 165/80/15 and 255/60/15. I could have stuffed 275/60 in the rear with a little work but I was concerned with trouble rubbing with people in the back seat etc.
I'm thinking...I'm going to cut a little more off of the front coil springs. I could handle the front lowered maybe an 1". If I would have went with the 275/60 in the rear it might have raised the car 1/2" in the rear.

Looks pretty good now, seems like a lot of effort to lower an inch up front. I like the old school traction bars too.

THANKS Man, I like the old :"slapper bar" look as well. Everything changes and the CalTracs are a better way to go now, but I still like the "look" of the slapper. I have a set of tubular control arms to put on it so cutting the springs is not a big deal. I have a One Piece Rear main seal, fuel injection 350 and a 4speed Muncie ...not an LS yet. So I'm not old and grumpy and against Technology in every way LoL...I just love the "Old School" look and feel and maybe even the sound. I like the sound of true duels better than X or H pipe exhaust.✌

Putting the hood back on it will push the front end down a bit.

Most tubular lower control arms have drop pockets so be cautious about cutting the springs. Depending on the control arms you're using they could drop the front as much as 2".

Allan is right. Take a good look at the lower control arms you have and if they have drop pockets and you are going to use them you might get all the drop you want (and more) by just reinstalling your uncut current springs. First pix shows typical budget LCA's with deeper pockets which could drop the front 1-1/2" to 2".

Picture below shows Hotchkis LCAs where the pocket is at stock height as far as geometry is concerned.

Also, you need to check out the ball joints in your tubular arms. I'd probably just toss whatever's on them just to be sure and install Pro Forged BJs in both upper and lower arms. Thats what I did and I also went with the tall upper BJs from ProForged. Not one problem in several years.

Here are the control arms I have to Install yet...I think you guys are right these pockets are probably "deeper" than the stock control arms on the car now. I bought a set of Hotchkis 2" springs a year ago before I bought the control arms. I've already vetoed using them.

Old school looks are what I also like. Not into the bigger than a 15 inch wheel thing myself. I have my centerlines and also some old Cragar Eliminators I have the centerlines on it now

Those Centerline wheels are so nice. I would love to get a set of the satin finish wheels on my Lemans Blue 68 SS.

Not to hijack the thread, but I like the looks of those Cragars, what size/offset are the wheels and tires?

Great looking car Carl...and garage I ran Aluminum Slots on my Camaro when I first put it on the street after I bought it...back in 1984 and you buy $10/$20 of gas and it would last all night. (y)

My Cragars are 15x8 with 4.5 back space and the front are 15x7 with 4.125 back space. They are Eliminators and very hard to find. They don’t make them anymore.
