If this car has original wiring harness still there should be a two wire plug with an orange and a white I think. Orange is battery ( hot all the time) and white goes to Turn signal switch, When you put on the T/S the brake light signal is interrupted for that side.That is why the circuit goes thru the T/S switch. Every thing else in the circuit is good because the T/S work.
The wiring diagram will help you tremendously. Follow this link. After opening it on the right side you'll see Electrical Chassis & Body. Click on Fuse Block. I also recommend you get a Factory Assembly Instruction Manual.
