I was cruising tonight and the car was running good. After diving around all night and going home on the highway I decided to put the pedal to the metal. After a few short seconds of killer accelaration my elecrical system gave up. All lights, elecric fuel pump, Gen lights everthing elcrical is dead. I have no electrical power what so ever. My car has a MSD 6 ignition with HEI ditributor. Electrical is dead with or without ignition. I have optima red top battery. Connections to battery look solid and clean. Where do I start? :(

Start at the power lead junction block next to the battery on the radiator support. Remove the leads and clean them, and/or, replace them.

Then move over to the horn relay on the driver side of the radiator support. There is a buss bar there joining the battery power lead with the rest of the car. Same process - remove and clean, both the terminal lugs and the buss bar itself, and/or, replace the terminal lugs.

The above works if the battery clamps are clean and tight and the alternator is working correctly, along with a good alt belt and properly tensioned.

Thanks for your help after checking the above I moved to the connector that bolts on to the firewall. This connector(from engine side harness) has a bad clip and the connector does not stay clipped together to the connector mounted on the firewall . After pressing it on tightly to the firewall everything works again. Can I get one of these connectors or do I have to buy the whole wiring harness?

I have not seen these connectors singularly, but, you might ask the wire harness manufacturer if you can get one.

Are you talking about the big firewall bulkhead connector? I belive there is a small bolt (3/8" or 7/16") in the middle that holds it all together.

They are on the firewall in between the master cylinder and the fender about 6" below the bottom of the master Cylinder. However I don't see any bolts holding it to the firewall. both sets of connectors have two plastic ears each that clip them on the firewall. The top ear on the fender side connector is broken. A freind of mine suggested I drill through it and use a tie wrap to squeeze and hold it together. I would prefer to fix it properly.

I just read 69 Rad's post. Is it possible the 67's are different than 68's and 69's because I don't see a bolt?
