It depended on whether the motor had Fuel Injection or not. I think the first TPI motors were in 1986. The carb motors continued to use the regular bolt pattern and then there were a year or two of mixed patterns, some carb motors had regular, some with the "offset" By the way, the reason for the change was to allow the center bolts to clear the TBI units.

Thanks Bill, I just piked up a 88 350 with Q-jet. It dosent seem to have the offset pattern. It started me thinking because like I said, I thought they started in 88. Thank you for your reply!!
