I have an *odd* question for the group.

I ordered Moog 6803 front coil springs from my auto parts store.

I carefully checked the box and *confirmed* that they were the correct Moog 6308 coil springs. I then took a picture of the springs beside a measuring tape for my records. I then installed the springs. Seeing the ride height and looking at the length (from the picture) I now know (for sure) that these are 6312 springs NOT 6308.

My question(s): what are the odds that the parts store will pay the labor to have the wrong springs removed/6308s installed? Has anyone been successful in doing this for a part?

I've spoken to the manager and he says remove the 6312's and return them and then they will see what the company will do for me...no promises. I suspect they think that I am trying to scam them somehow.

I've never seen any parts company refund anythig but cost of parts or replacement. Check their warrentee policy, it's usually printed on the paperwork or box and their web site should have it.

I'm hoping that if MOOG won't assist that the parts store will. It is pretty bad that they packaged the wrong part in the right box.

Has anyone had any experience where they were reimbursed for the labor?...

i was a manger of the commercial dept at autozone. if you speak with the store manager not a psm you could ask for a labor claim you fill out the paperwork. they send it to corp... and they will process it for you will take sometime. did you install these or did a shop install them. that may make a diffrence. remember i worked commercial

I installed the springs originally but may have a shop do the switch.

The parts store manager said that if Moog won't do anything that they "would see what they could do". He asked me to provide either a reciept or estimate that shows the cost of the labor...

That conversation with him made me hopeful that they might take care of this for me...it is good to hear that Autozone at least has some remedy for commercial customers.

I'm hoping this store has something for the avg Joe who is hit pretty hard by a $250.00 labor charge to install these...

Advance Auto Parts will usually pay a certain part of labor costs IF the parts were originally installed by a commercial shop and the parts are defective. The auto parts store does not appear liable for parts that were boxed incorrectly by Moog. Since you did not incur any labor costs in your original install, it would be a real surprise if a parts store would pay you for any labor costs. If they do, you have a very customer oriented vendor! Since you installed the springs yourself, why not do the re-install yourself?

That is probably what I will do. I am thinking of just installing the QA1 setup and being done with ride height issues.

I'm pretty unhappy however that I spent 4 hours (yes, I am slow) doing the install and have to do it all over again through no fault of my own.

I realize that things like this sometimes do happen and do not feel that the store is completely at fault.

I do however think that Moog should have some liability for this and I would be a REAL happy customer if they made it right. Their faulty quality control is the cause of this problem. It sounds like Moog already has well-honed defenses for customer parts issues through their "limited liability" warranty.

In your orginal note, you referr to 6308 and 6803 spings... So who is making a mistake here. As for the labor,, Autozone would be the only bet and if not , tell them you will boycott.

Thanks David--that would help my case too.

Question for you David--I've read your site many, many times and really appreciate the resource you provide for us at TC.

After reading and researching springs, ride, etc, I have a dilemma on whether to just install the 6308s or try the QA1 small block springs and gain the advantage of being able to adjust my ride height and springs perfectly.

As you are aware, the max lbs/in rate on the QA1 SB is 250 to 350 lbs/in (progressive rate) vice the full-time 379 lbs/in rate of the 6308s. That seems to a major difference in rates and worries me. BB springs are 365/465--much closer and much stiffer compared to the 6308s.

I use my car for road trips (50 to 150 miles) and frequent travel on local, well-maintained curvy roads. I want good cornering (45 MPH or less) and handling. I currently have rubber control arm bushings and will install the Addco 1" solid sway bar soon.

In your opinion, would the numbers on the 6308s vs the QA1 give me that much of a different ride? Would the QA1 be much, much softer than the 6308s?

Global West sells a 450 non progressive coil for the QA1 coilover.
I'd try the BB progressive coils, with less weight on them they will act like 365's and should be nice on the street but stiffer than stock.

If you want the car lower you need to go stiffer than stock (325) to prevent hitting the bump stops all the time. With a SB engine, I'd say a 379 is minimum for a fairly stock street car.
450 to 550 for lowered drivers with not huge horsepower or maxed out tire width, kind of a medium compromise rate.
650 for quite a bit of power and lowered and those wanting the best handling open track/autocross, with very wide tires.

What about a set of 5536's trimmed a coil after being clocked like the originals first so they sit right??

Trim the closed end?? To hold some height..
