Doing loads of tweaking to my 67 I have come across something I need help with. It's finally running good without the PCV valve hooked up. I have breathers on both valve covers to a least relieve some of the pressure. I had the PCV off and plugged trying to eliminate a vacuum leak.

This morning I hooked the PCV valve back up and it's idling higer, stumbling off idle and the idle is choppier.

I have read up on the PCV operation here and on the Chevelle site. Good info in both places. I believe the stock PCV valve is incorrect for my application as I am pulling about 10" of vacuum at idle and a vacuum leak is being created through the valve.

Am I correct in that at idle there should be very little vacuum on the inlet side of the PCV valve? My finger was almost sucked through the valve when I put my finger over it.

No--you will have a strong vacuum pull at idle. You are running lean with PCV hooked up. Just richen mixture screws until your idle is stable and then slow idle speed down to where you want it.

The best way I know to check a PCV valve is to take it off and shake it. If it rattles it's probably ok. You should always feel some vacuum on the end of it. Plug the other vacuum lines one at a time and see if it makes a difference. If there are no vacuum leaks hook the pcv up and try readjusting the idle speed and mixture.

Sounds reasonable. How far out can these screws go, they are already out 2 1/4 turns. Guess we will find out.
