I bought a ZZ1 350 roller motor and it has pistons in it with these numbers on them: 14096478 trying to ID the pistons. Anyone know where to look? They don't seem to show up in any GMPP catalogs I have access to.

GM's piston part numbers are pretty difficult to follow. The part number in the catalog is for the piston & pin assembly and will not be the same as the part number on the piston. Sometimes the aftermarket parts crossovers will list them, sometimes not. The ones in your picture almost look like the pistons they make for using 305 heads on a 350 ? They have a pretty good dish and along with the giant valve reliefs the compression wont be much with the usual 350 head. Which heads are on the engine ? Hard to say what GM put in thier crate engines sometimes.

I don't have heads yet so I was trying to figure out the pistons and decide what cc heads I need to get to have compression at about 9.5 or 10 to 1 Any suggestions? What cc dish should those be with the releifs?

I just looked in my Sealed Power catalog. It looks like those pistons are the ones they used in Vin K Chevy truck engines from 1991-1996. You will probably have to cc the dish to figure out what pistons you need. That looks like a pretty big dish, if I had to guess I would say at least 15cc Those engines were only 8.5 to 1 so I am betting you will need a pretty small chamber head, somewhere around 58cc ? to get the compression where you want it. I doubt that you will find a published piston cc spec anywhere. The Sealed Power replacement part number is H580CP

Hunt up a GOOD pair of 305HO, -601 heads and cut them to 52 cc's and install w/ the needed thickness headgaskets to put your CR. where you want it and go!

PS., and they range from 52 to I figure 58 cc's........ At least my pair are 53 and 55 cc's.

Thanks for the info guys - much appreciated. Is there any drawback to using that piston and a head with a small chamber versus more of a flat top style piston and a larger cc head? I was thinking of just getting some Iron Eagle heads or something similar in that price range. This is going into a street car that I want to have lots of torque, won't be winding it out much. But was hoping for something in the 400hp/430tq range. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't think so, but what I don't know is, will -601 heads support that much hp unless they have bigger valves installed?

They usually only have 1.84"/1.50" valves stock vs 2.02"/1.60" in big valve heads.

Bigger valves in the 601s will actually hurt air flow.The chamber is so small 1.94 and 1.6 valves are to close to the chamber sides.The ports aren't big enough either.

Look at the Iron Eagle heads here 49cc chambers 180cc or 200cc intake ports http://www.competitionproducts.com/products.asp?dept=14

I think I would go with the 180cc ports for what you are doing.They are $899.97/pair assembled.
