Swapped my 86 350 block for a 76 block 4 bolt main, The harmonic balancer is bigger on the 4 bolt thus not letting the pump bracket fit. Going in my 68 RS. Is there an aftermarket that would work ? Thanks
You can grind the bracket you have or buy a different bracket. Do you know what Frame mounts are in your car ? With a larger 8" balancer you will need the 350/302 frame mounts or the balancer will hit the stock sway bar. If you have a larger, aftermarket bar you will need to shim the bar down. You could also switch the balancer's from engine to engine !
A larger balancer will absorb more vibration. You may want to check with a more qualified engine person, but it has been done many times. You might consider a new aftermarket balancer, of the smaller diameter. If the engine was a 400 (externally balanced) you could not swap the balancers.
