I would think it would hurt any seals, not to mention how hard it would be to get out of the inside or what it would do to the ragjoint. I've had to clean up some dirty ones before, and I used plugs were the hoses go and scraped off as much as I could with screwdriver and scraper then used a solvent brush to wet it down, let it sit for a few, then carefully wash it with a can of solvent and brush.
I was taught early on that solvents and gas eat seals and rubber parts. I've just always been cautious there.
