What should I pay for a '69 Z28?
The car I'm looking at dose not have
the original "DZ" engine in it. It is
in fair condition will need new paint, some
minor interior work, and minor engine work.
it dose run and is in drivable condition.
I'm confident this is a Z28 other that the
replacement engine, it has:

Power front disk brakes
manual 4-speed trans.
4-leaf rear springs
12-bolt rear end
single fuel line
NO A/C
Dual exhaust (hanger points).

Submit your cowl tag for decoding, the car could likely be anything.. this would help with the issue of value providing the tag is original........

I have verified the cowl tag and the car is a '69
Z28. The issue I have is that the car dose not
have a matching # DZ engine. The owner wants $5500
the car is in fair shape, but I don't feel it
is worth that much. Do I price the car like a
plain Jane '69 camaro $3500, or do I price it
in-between a plain Jane and a Z28 for lack for

Your question is impossible for anyone here to answer the way it was asked. Had you asked if $500.00 was a good deal or if $50,000.00 was way to much, then you would have gotten some feed back. If you could post some pics of the car and supply the asking price you will get some opinions.

I noticed this was your first post, so don't think we were giving you the cold shoulder treatment.

Looks like we were typing at the same time. Now your'e getting to the point. It's just my opinion, but on the east coast a rust free real Z28 with any kind of motor is well worth $5,500.00. Maybe even without a motor.

Thank you, that is the kind of feed back I was looking for.
I understand that when it is fully restored I will not be
worth near as much as a '69 Z28 with matching #'s. I have
plane Jane '68 convertible with out matching numbers. The
non-matching engine did not drastically effect the value of the
car, around $15,000. Now my last question would be what is the

That is entirely too much money to pay for a 69 Z28..... can I get sellers address! Just kidding. Buy it for 5 grand and then sell it to me for $5200.00. Good luck.

6 months ago I paid $6500 for a 68 camaro, no Z-28 either. Car was extremely clean with 4speed, 12 bolt, I am now putting 502 in it for fun. So your price is good at $5500. All you need to do is check out pricing on the net and see how expensive these cars can get

Also mine came without original motor

sclouse, I noticed you are from sunny CA. You said you ran the cowl tag and verified the car was a Z/28. Is it a Van Nuys or Norwood car? If LA the cowl tag won't verify the Z/28 aspect. The items you listed are good clues however for such things as the fuel line it should not only be a single line but also 3/8". If the car has a tach it should redline at 6K. Rear bumper guards? In my opinion a verified Z/28 without the original motor is still a Z/28 and should carry a higher value than a standard sport coupe. As for price it's all a matter of how bad you got the "I gotta have it's".

sclouse - To answer your last question I sold one of my '69 Z's about a year ago that was nicely restored, was a desirable color (Hugger) and had a non # matching 302 for $17,200. My friend just sold a non # '69 RS Z/28 in good driver condition with lots of options for $22,000. Both these cars were X33 Norwood built cars so there was no question that they were real cars... just missing their original blocks. Hope this helps.

Thank you, that was just the information I was looking for.
I never but a price tag on the time I put into a restoration,
but it is nice to know I could get my money of the car
in the case of an emergency! I'm going to drive the car this
