I have a newly built SBC with a roller cam installed. Is it necessary to prime the oil pump before start up? I've heard that this step was not needed with roller cams. The engine was fired up by the builder and dynoed back in January 09, but the engine has been sitting since. Thanks!

Priming sole purpose is not just the camshaft. It also lubricates the bearings, oil pump, timing chain....etc. Always prime an engine before start up.

Even with a roller motor prime it. I use Delo 400 oil plus a break in additive regardless of flat tappet or roller.

All moving parts need lube still.
