Here is a link to my region of scca. http://www.sfrscca.com/
I don't know where you are located or if you want to autocross or road race.
Take a look and you may have to go back to the SCCA national home page and find your region's home page.

If you join SCCA you will recieve a monthly magazine from them with lots of info. Usually in the spring, there are driving schools etc for new guys.

David, i actually live about a hour and a half from you, down in san jose. I want to get into the road racing part of the SCCA, i think it is solo 1. Like i said earlier i can get my hands on a vw rabbit, and i have seen several set up to race. I guess what i am wondering what could i look at spending when i am first starting out.

I don't have any idea on cost.
You'll need the safety equipment which will cost over $1000.
Helmet, nomex underwear, balaclava, gloves, shoes, socks, drivers suit, gear bag to store it in.
You'll need a roll bar and maybe a roll cage.
$600?
Seat belts and sholder harness, Safety net, roll bar padding. $300?
Halon fire bottle system $300?
Then you need all the speed goodies for the car and race wheels and tires, air bottle, jack, sun shade, tools, trailer and tow vehicle.
Kinda adds up, don't it?

Join SCCA and you'll get the Wheel the montly SFR newspaper, and SportsCar, the monthly magazine from the national organisation.
You can also race NASA which is maybe a little cheaper. http://www.pacificmotorsport.com/nasa/index.htm
And Green Flag does open track events too. I don't have a web site for them.
Also there is the Capri club that does events.
