Good chance its your valve guide seals. They get hard and brittle with age and heat and soon they let your cold start blow oil thru the seals until they get lubed up and soften enuf to seal again. Next time you cold start, same thing all over again.
Maybe others have ideas too but this is a good bet.

the seals can be replaced with just the valve covers removed with the proper tools. The seals fit down over the valve stem but the springs and rockers need to come off for this too.
I had my seals replaced last year by my mechanic that had the right tools.

I owned an '85 IROC 305, TPI that puffed blue every time it started from the time it had 10K miles on it until the day I sold it at 130k miles!!

These engines did not have great valves seals but, if you can live with the annoying "mosquito control feature" it won't really affect engine performance too much!!

depends on your shop rates there. Took my mechanic 3 hours but he did a few other things too. Call your local chevy dealer and get a shop rate quote and hours required for the job, they have a flat rate manual to read it from.
