Rear disc brake rearend

Hi All,
I have a freind who has a 10 Bolt positrac disc brake rear end with 3:42gears out of a 78-79 trans Am who wants to sell it to me. he wouldnt give me a price, he just keeps asking "what will I give him for it?" Does anyone know what this thing is worth? how about how many were made? I know I cant buy it dirt cheap, but what should I offer him?

Well a rear disc kit can run as much as $700, a gear swap with posi unit will run anywhere from $500 to $1500 depending on if you do the swap your self or pay someone and the guality of the parts you buy. Offer him two hundred and go from there. Remember that the rearend is prob. used so you might have to still spend money to get it in shape for the road.

Around here you can get the exact same thing for about 600 hundred, but it will not fit your 69, the rear disc might, but the rearend won't. Also make sure evertything is there, you need calipers, rotors, proportioning valve, and the smaller brake booster, and aluminum mastercylinder is nice, I have the exact same setup on my 71 firebird- went to the junkyard and found an 81 with the same thing but 3.08 pulled everything(everything from up top) then hid it and waited till the first of the year(when junkyard had half off sale, got everything for 150 bucks, had to resurface the rotors, and one of the axles was bent, interchanged with my old one, also needed new e-brake cables(different than drum brake cables) was lucky enough to get them from local Pontiac dealership for twenty each! NO one else had them. Then to get the brakes to bleed right YOU MUSt pump the rear caliper e-brake levers a couple of times to get them to adjust. I wouldn't give a friend over 300 for just the rearend a brakes, since they are already pulled. But if you really want them.... they are around some, you just have to look. Thanks for the replys, i will go and offer him a couple hundred for it and see what happens. I wsnt to put it in a plain jain 69 project I have goingright now. I know I will have to move the spring pads and that its a inch wider than stock but I am only going to run 7 inch ralleys so I think it should be ok.

I paid $300 for the same thing,except 4.10 Posi-see my post in "suspension and brakes"section about 4-5 days ago.

The brakes off that rear are a direct bolt in on a 67-69 rear. I added a set of these disk to the back of my car that has a 12 bolt. Direct swap. Used the master cylinder from a 79-81 TA and used a Wilwood proportioning valve from Summit Racing. Setup works good

You better get a shop that can do those spring pads right! other wise it will be all messed up, ask him about the proportioning valve and mastercylinder, but you definetly need a different prop. valve.
