Replacing shocks on 67 convertible. Removed upper mounting plate and attached to new shock. Adjusted axle until I could push into upper hole and get bolt across bottom. This just looks funny:

Mono leaf springs from 67 convertible 12 bolt. The lower bolt mount looks funny to me.

John, In your pic are the jack stands under the axle and
supporting the car ? A bit of a cant is not unusual. How
does it compare to the condition prior to changing the shocks ?
Your new shocks may be too short. The shocks should not
be at full extension with the weight of the car on the ground.

The tabs on the axel were flush to old shocks, but they weren't right either

What if I lower car onto stands, that should put weight to normal on shock

I'm guessing the mount is bent. Straighten it out. If the
metal is fatigued you may have to replace the mount or
add a gusset if possible.

Those brackets are rather thin and weak. You may be able to bend them a bit to level them out to the shock with the cars weight on the jackstands under the axle.
