Had some issues with the oil filter housing for my GM truck, thought I'd bounce this off of the best ;) The housing is GM for a remote GM oil cooler in , it's been peeing oil for a while, kind of feel like the Exxon Valdez. Anyway, the reseal kit came with a flat gasket ( as well as the O ring ) that goes between the block and the aluminum adapter housing. I can't recall ever having to put a gasket between the oil filter adapter and the block on a non-remote setup ..anybody know why that gasket is there? I would think all of the oil sealing occurs with the O-ring ?? Anybody ever replace this on their GM truck..it's been a pain in the butt, what I thought would be a simple job..Haa!

it's just there to prevent any sort of little internal leak that might occur.
i had to replace those same seals in my 94 Caprice, and it was like a 10 minute job. the oil cooler lines were a bit more involved, but not too bad.

As Nova stated its to prevent the leak between the housing and the remote adapter. Also be sure to check the hoses because they can burst after a while.
