I have 17 inch rims . And the crome is starting to chip off. I would like to strip them and have them power coated white. I took them to a shop in nj that power coats. The guy sand blasted one rim. He got the crome off, but also ate grooves in the rim. Any one know a better way to remove the crome? I don't trust letting this guy sand blast my other 3 rims. They are aluminum under the crome. Can they be asid bath to remove? Thank for any info mike s.

Mike,
Aircraft paint remover might do it, it's safe for aluminum but I don't know if it would strip the chrome off. Wouldn't hurt to try.

I own a powdercoating shop in New york.
If the guy sandblasted your rims and left groovesthats ok.Powdercoat will definately fillin those voids. And any oyher imperfection that the rims may have.Good luck

I asked around about the same thing a few years ago (I wanted a grill "dechromed")....The best answer that I got was to send them to a chrome plating shop and have them "unplated"....I guess it's some kind of reverse plating procedure.....
