I currently have an ad in the classifieds (1st gen car for sale).

I've been getting emails "From: ann donald <[email protected]> "
which is clearly a scam. The age old, ..."I'm in the UK, etc. etc. ..."
I'm pretty much going to ignore the notes, ...but was wondering if this board keeps 'track' of the emails that these notes are coming from.

Thanks,
Kevin

Here's the note for the record:

Kevin,

Am okay with the price $4,000,am a dealer in U.K and Inrespect of payment i have a client in the U.S who is owing me $4,000 All i need to do to make payment easier and faster is to instruct him to procure a cashiers check and mail it to you on the address and name you want on the check and you know it takes 24hrs for a cashiers check to clear in the U.S.bank.
But i would want to know if i can trust you to sendback my balance to me via westernunion money transfer after the money must have cleared in your bank to enable me prepay the shipping cost for the pick up in your location.mail me asap to enable me arrange payment. Furnish me with your name and address with your contact phone number, so i will forward it to my client for payment.
Thanks,

We partnered with http://www.scamchecker.com and they are keeping a database of these weasels. please add to it.

If you do not put a "public email" address when you post an ad here, then only registered users can contact you. To date, none of the scammers have registered. If they do, we get more information on them which we can use to block further attempts.

Just a note to everyone my co-worker had this done to him yesterday (same exact scam) except it was for an apartment he was renting. Scammer said he would rent the place and send all the money but the check would have extra money for his travel expenses and for him to western union the money back to him in London. Beware they are branching this scam off in every direction.

Thanks. 213.185.113.46 - from Nigeria, a real nigerian scam email, not a clone!

That entire group is now blocked from the site. I show that IP all over the ads today.

It seems a clear sign of a scammer is the curly braces { like this } around the item for sale.

It is quite often you see when someone is advertising and they specificly state no overseas buyers ! I cannot blame them for the above stated reasons , Its just a shame for the honest people like myself
