Hi everyone Happy Turkey Day. I just installed a Lunati Voodoo 268 cam in gm crate 350/330ho motor I had the speed shop owner who I have been doing business with for 20 years help me. We dialed it in and checked installed height. I am using the crane 10309-01 valve springs. We checked the rocker arm to retainer clearance on the curved edge of the rocker and it was fine. When the valves are closed there is plenty of clearance on the guided part of the rocker .015 to the retainer. However when they are full opn the guided edges touch the retainer enough that I can't get a feeler gauge in there, which makes mer nervous. My friend says it looks ok, and to start it up and break in the cam. Then check for wear ;marks on the retainer. That makes sense but I'd like some additional input from other people aby thoughts?

Your Question is a little confusing.

If you have the valve close and the retainer to rocker clearance is .015 then at full open you should have a ton like .100 plus.

Now if the second part of the question is retainer to guide/seal clearance then you need a min. of .030 when valve is fully open.

Fortunately I actually found the problem, the new valve locks were .050 offset instead of stock clearance. Which caused the rocker arm to hit the retainer. I only realized this when I double checked my friends work who apparently didn't measure everything like he said he did. I measured the installed height with just a caliper and it was 1.78 instead of 1.74. I put the stock locks back in and it measures fine.

Dave, when do you plan on breaking that cam in? I would like to know how it sounds and what you think about it. I'm shopping for a cam myself right now.
