I have a chance to pick up a 400 sb. All I have to do is take it out of the van that it is in. I think it's 78 or 79.
Are these good engines, is it worth my time to go yank this thing out.
Oh yea, the whole drivetrain is there so the tranny comes with it.
I'm wondering if it would fit in my 67 vert.

Thanks! John

If the price and bore is right, DO IT!

That's what I'm doing right now. Got mine for $80 and it's the cheapest HP per dollar upgrade I've done so far. 400ci = Mucho power.

Thanks people!
It's free if I want it. I'll have to get rid of the van itself. But I figure it's worth the price.

Anybody know if it would bolt in to the 67?

Even if I don't put it in the camaro I'll hang on to it

You also have to use the balancer that is specific to a 400 SBC. Those engines are externally balanced where all other small blcoks are internally balanced. You should always replace the balancer when you rebuild an engine of that age and possible mileage. The elastomer becomes brittle and can allow the balancer to shift on the hub which really screws you up when you are trying to set the timing and it may eventually separate. Separation is a very bad thing. Just make sure you order an 8 inch balancer for a 400 SBC.
