The smaller 12 gauge ground cable that comes off of the negative battery cable smokes when I try to start my '69 Camaro. I have checked all connections and replaced it but it's still doing it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. The folks on this forum were very helpful a few months back with some questions I had!!!

Best,
Daniel

What's the engine end of the negative cable connected to? Sounds like the ground pigtail is trying to carry the full amperage load from the starter. :(

Ground check !!!
I fried mine a while back because the negative cable ground on the block had some paint under it. That little wire just can't take all of the ground load.

Yes I agree with what they said. The ground wire, or one of the ends are not making a good connection. Like was stated earlier the small body ground is trying to tote the load of the starter and it won't last long that way. Good luck. You might want to disconnect the small wire until you find the problem with the other wire.
