I assume it has been dipped and clean?
A very thin spray of etch primer, then I use VHT chevy orange engine enamel , but punture the bottom of the can and MT into a container
Stir it around till the LPG propellent boils off.
Then put into a air brush and slowly build up the layers till the casting roughness is filled.
Let dry, and lightly sand down with 280 wet dry till the casting just sshows thru
Finish with another coat with the air brush.
First of all, I am assuming you mean actually smoothing the castings. There is no easy way to do it, period. Its just like porting cast iron heads ..... dirty, noisy, and very time consuming. Start out with carbide bits and a die grinder and get all of the real rough areas, then go back with sanding rolls and get it however smooth you want. Just to give you an idea, I would expect to spend an hour at least just cleaning up and smoothing the lifter valley area.
