I remember back in my RV tech days that we would replace the factory flasher with a "heavy duty" flasher when we wired a vehicle for a trailer to keep the flash rate at a normal speed. It's internally wired so it has it's own load to sense, regardless of the bulb load. The heavy duty we used must have been the 552. I always wondered if this would work for LED lights but never tried it.


If that's the case why all the hubbub of going with an electronic flasher???

Why not try one and find out?
I suggest the 552 because its cheap and plentiful and easy to interface.

LED bulbs use a much lower draw than filiment type bulbs. If an LED bulb is used in the turn signal circuit, the standard flasher will make the LED bulb flash rapidly. Using a flasher designed for lower draw LED bulbs will work with LED or filiment type bulbs. Best of both worlds.
