OK maybe this is a stupid question but I need to know. When I install the rubber splash guards on the inner fenders do the staples go from the engine side to the wheel side. Also do you just bend the staples over with screwdriver or is there a special trick to do this that I should know.Any help here sure would be appreciated.....Thanks....BBS

BBS, they go in from engine bay towards wheel and use screwdriver or needlenose pliers. I used a small drillbit to cleanout holes and predrill flaps prior to installation.

BBS, I bought the repro kit and found the staples provided were of a thicker gauge and wrong size. The staples were almost impossible to bend. What I did was take an original staple and go to the hardware store. Found the exact same gauge safety wire and also bought some
safety wire pliars. Used my original dust shields as a template and drilled small holes in the repro shields. Removed the front
wheels and made small wire loops. Poked the wire thru the fenderwell and shield and spun the wire tight on the tire side. I used a small hammer to tap the wire flat on the fender well. From the engine bay side it looks exactly like original.

should all this work really be necessary for dust shields? i ordered mine 3 months ago bud didnt put them on beacause the staples they included just plain didnt fit. you would think that if the kit contained two components, splashguards and staples, then you shouldnt have to make your own d*** staples and cut your own d*** holes in the splash guards. for $15 repop pieces of rubber and bits of metal, this is once of the crappiest purchases ive made. sheesh.

When I was replacing my worn original splash shields, I wondered how this was done at the factory. It appears as thought the inner fenders were not pre-drilled as some of the
staples partially missed the fender. Were the splash sheilds on the fender well before the fender was installed on the car? Maybe someone (JohnZ) might have the answer?
