I know this has probably been ask before but which comes first SS RS or RS SS I have always heard the SS came first and the RS was a ordered unless it was a just a RS car. First generation is always been my first choice. If drugs was any more addicting than these 60's Bowtie cars I sure do not need any of that stuff. Even though I have had first gen. cars since I was young I do like the 66 & 67 Nova's (GREAT WEB SITE)
67 SS RS 350
68 Z/28
67 RS Conv.
67 Conv. 396
69 Coupe X44
68 Coupe factory A/C
66 Nova SS L-79
66 Nova SS
66 Nova Wagon (For Sale)
3-67 Nova Wagons (For Sale)
66 Chevelle Conv. (For Sale)

The base car is a Camaro, we all agree on that... From there it could become a Z/28 or an SS performance model. (can't mix the 2 except 4th gen '96) Let's stay with gen1! You can get the RS option on any of the three. So you get an RS optioned Camaro, an RS optioned Z/28 and an RS optioned SS. (The RS option is a visual enhancement) So that leaves us with:

RS Camaro
RS Z/28
RS SS

That's the DjD definative but I assure you someone with SSRS on a vanity plate will provide just as good an explanation to counter mine...

I refer you to the 1968 Camaro sales brochure Cover Car: The Cover is titled / labeled as; "COVER: CAMARO SS SPORT COUPE WITH RALLEY SPORT EQUIPMENT AND VINYL TOP YOU CAN ORDER".

Fun cars any way you say it.!
Sounds like My Vote is for SS/RS

if the SS was the major player then i have a question on this thorey 1967 RPO code Z21---Style Trim Code
Z22 Rally Sport Package
Z23 Interior, Special
Z28 Special Performance Package (coupe)
Z87 Custom Interior

1967 only the Rally Sprot Package was named outright

1968 RPO codes
Z21 Style Trim Group
Z2 Rally Sport Package
Z23 Interior, special (included with RPO Z87)
Z28 Special Performance Package (coupe)
Z87 Custom Interior

Again only the Rally Sport was named outright

1969 RPO codes
Z10/11 Indy coupe/convt
Z21 style trim Group
Z22 Rally Sport Package
Z23 Interior, Special
Z27 Super Sport (SS) Package
Z28 Special Performance Package
Z87 Custom Interior
As you can see for all three years only in 69 did they assign an RPO as Super Sport.

Hate to say it but evven if the SS emblems over-road the RS emblems when both were ordered on the same car the RS Pacakge has been around as a Rally Sport Package longer so i would say it would be an RS/SS if needed to be called anything

Just my thoughts
