Any tips or ideas on starting up a 350 crate engine with 5k miles on it after its been stored for about 10 years?

The engine was not fogged but has been sealed up and stored in a climate controlled garage.

My thinking is to squirt a bit of oil in each cylinder and spool up the oil pump to circulate oil before start up.

Am I flirting with potential problems or should the engine be torn down, inspected and reassembled first?

I say go for it with the suggestions made above. I bet it will run just fine. 10 years isn't too long compared to what others have done.

Squirt some good old Marvel Mystery Oil in it and I bet it will be fine!!

It will penetrate through the ring stack and lube a schosh better then regular oil, imho..

I started one years ago this way and it went fine..

Expect the carb floats to stick.

I fired my 307 up after it sat for almost 10 years. I shot a few squirts of WD-40 in each cylinder and turned the motor 1 rotation by hand. Took out the distributor and used a drill to bring up the oil pressure. Would have fired right up if I didnt have the distributor 180 degrees off. Once I fixed that t ran great.
