Having moved several years ago from my hometown to my wife's hometown .. 1500 miles away.. I was unable to bring my camaro with me at the time... after 3 long years without it.. she's coming home via the railcar, man I've missed her!!.. woo-hoo!! Sorry.. got a little emotional there..
Anyway.. when I put it in storage I put a bottle of fuel stabilizer in the tank.. sprayed a can of 'storage spray' down the carb until it stalled the motor.. then pulled the plugs and sprayed more of the storage spray in the cylinders as well.
What should I do to prep the engine before starting and getting it ready to transport?
i plan to change the oil and filter, should i siphon the old gas out? any advice or precautions appreciated

Myself, I would almost be tempted to take the gas tank out and cleaning it. May save a whole lot of headaches down the road. As far as the engine goes , change the oil and filter and crank it over by hand with the plugs out. This will ensure a complete oil film around the bearing journals with as light as load as possible.

probably wouldn't hurt to pull the distributor and prime the oil system with a priming tool. pull the valve covers and spin the pump with a ggod drill until oil comes out of all the rockers- it may take a while. then fire it up and treat it like a brand new engine- keep the rpm's around 2k for a few minutes, and drive it nice for a few hundred miles.change the oil, and it should be good to go.

I think about changing the coolant too. It could get a little stale after somany years. Make sure your brakes work real good. Air can get in and fluid leaks after first few miles are not uncommon. All the water in the fluid when you stored will rust wheel cylinder, caliper and master cylinder bores potentionally ruining the seals.

You really need to check every part of that car. Who knows what could be bad or needing attention.
