Well the tranny in my 98 Chev truck finally quit so I am going to be replacing it soon. I was wondering what you guys thought about synthetic transmission fluid. I am sold on synthetic oil in the motor but I just wanted to get an opinion before I start!!

The shop that rebuilt my tranny highly recommended it for my ST-10. They use it in their race car as well. I put it in and of course I had a new leak. I switched back to regular gear oil and no leak. Can't say I noticed a difference shifting with either oil.

The syn will run cooler but if its a rebuild and has any old seals or gaskets still in them, it can work out the old fluid build up and then a leak occurs as Dens mentioned. If its a total rebuild, all new parts and gaskets it shouldnt leak and the syn should give you much cooler running temps. Its pricey but again, its more insurance to operate with less friction too. Drop me or Big Gear Head an email for links to more info.
