Hi All:
Having a problem with my '68 convertible. I recently had my dash painted and just put the instrument cluster back in the car. I was in the process of mounting the headlight switch back in the dash but figured I should test everything before I actually mounted the switch back in the dash. When I turned on the headlights, the Tail Lamp fuse blew. The tail lmaps stayed lit for about three to five seconds or so before the fuse blows. I thought it might be the headlight switch so I replaced that and the same thing happens. The switch is not actually mounted to the dash right now but I don't think that would have anything to do with the fuse blowing (am I right??). I doubt know if replacing the guage cluster back in the car has anything to do with this but I didn't want to leave that out. Also, the instrument cluster lights don't work. Not sure if one had to do with the other. Headlights do work but marker light does not (don't have back up lights-never did- so I can't check those. Signal lights do work. I am HORRIBLE at wiring problems and really hope someone can help me out here as to where to start......

Hi All:
Isn't is great when the guy that posts the question, also posts the answer. Looks as though one of the tail light wires was pinched behind the bolt that holds the corner bumper bracket on. I'd forgotten I put a new back bumper on as well and caught a wire behind the nut exposing the wire and it was rubbing against the fender.
Maybe this will help someone down the road who might come across the same problem....
