I can drive the car then turn it off after a haul and instantly put the ignition back on or go all the way and start and have a 10 degree temp drop. Whatevers. I'd figure it the resistor playing games from heating up but started thinking it doesn't even get to cool down going to off then back to on.

Alternator is not running, 12 volt reading verses 14 volt reading. If anything, the temp should go up do to heat soak when engine is just turned off off.

Then again too, depends where the sender is located, if in the head, alot of heat soak. If in the intake crossover next to the thermostat, not as much heat soak.

Also, electrical connections, could need cleaning. The thermistor body is grounded through the threads, heat does change resistance, usually, higher heat, more resistance. DMM won't show this amount, one would have to measure with a DMM having the function of Low Ohms, >2 ohms (milliohms) measurement, as in 4-wire meter leads.

I've thought of all the things that would make sense to me. But it's always the way it goes going from instant off right back to on with engine running. Thought maybe air pockets up where the reading come from leading to less hot water for heat but once again going right back to running in less than a second it reamain about 10 degress lower. This is the original gauge. I kinda figure the only thing I can rationalize is a capacitor where it will drop the charge going to off grounded. I think I might of jogged my thinking figuring I might try checking the engine ground wire. I think I might be running just battery ground with out the battery grounded at it's position. In other words I think my cars is a capacitor making related to resistance reading be off since what is seposed to be ground is kinda more charged.

Try hooking a volt meter between the engine block and your meter's ground connection. See how the voltage drop changes between off and running. You'll probably need to rig up an extension of some kind to make the leads reach.
