I installed a console gauge set and hook everything up as per wiring diagram in my 69 .The only thing not in the diagram was the grond on the console plug, I put it under one of the mounting screws on the console to the tunnel.Is that right? The problem I have is when I turn the key on the gauge pegs to the cold side. I did a search and checked most of the items suggested like ground,power, sender etc. The gauge pegs with the sending unit hook up and with it not hooked up. I did not change the sending unit from light to gauge ,would that alone cause the problem?Where can I find a standard TS6 sending unit?All other gauges seem to work except for the oil pressure, which I am looking for the right adaptor fitting(anyone have one?Also looking for the rear console lamp seems no supply store has one)Any suggestions??

Yes, the temperature switch used with the idiot light is just that a switch. It is normally open until it gets to it's set temperature at which time it closes. Your problem with the gauge pegging to the low side is indicative of an open circuit, which is what you get when you use a temperature switch instead of a temperature sender. Get a sender and your problems should go away. Try NAPA for the sender.

Make sure the sender is a match for your guage. The sender and guage are calibrated to work together. Is this a factory reproduction guage set? If so, the factory sender should work.

Temperature senders come in different resistances. Also, some of them increase resistance with temperature (positive temperature coefficient) and others decrease resistance with temperature (negative temperature coefficient). Most that I've seen are NTC types, but not all are created equal.

Thanks for the replys. It is a factory gauge setup. I will try Napa on Tuesday Autozone and Advance did not have a sending unit .

You need a sender calibrated to the guages in your car. I got an AC/Delco sender and it doesn't give me the correct reading. Try this place for the sender...
