I've always done the timing bye feel. I set it until I hear a slight ping and then advance it untill the ping is gone. I just want to know if this is alright to do and if I'm getting the full performance of the car.
I think normal setting for this would be 8 degrees before with vacuum advance unplugged. With good gas you can go up to 12 and help performance sometimes. Setting to ping and retarding to where it doesn't ping is plenty good. Also some used to set it up until the starter would kick on a hot motor and back it off until it would turn over right.
