Hopefully the easy way is with the help of this forum. What is the suggested set up for the following?

383 Stroker, 10.3/1,Performer 2.02 heads with street port, 1 5/8 full headers,
Speed Demon 750 VS,Air gap manifold, Comp Cam 280H 231 duration @.50
TKO600 and 3.55 gears.

ignition MSD 8361, 6AL, Blaster 2. 8.5mm wires

Dist is still untouched so Blue 21 degree bushing and 2 heavy silver springs.
So is the carb for that matter but shouldn't we start with timing?

I'm looking for peak performance, not fuel economy but I'm not taking it to the track nor will I test it on a dyno. I'm just not that interested.

That said what sounds best for this? Initial should be.... total should be.....
What bushing and springs have you stroker guys changed to to acheive that?

Lastly. Where should the vacuum come from? Manifold, or ported from the carb?

Thanks for your input. - Dave

18 initial, 18 mech and all in by 3-3500 is what a lot of people around here run.

i agree...36 degrees of total is a good number...you might be able to get a little more, but could detonate without you hearing, and do damage...

From my experience with Demons, they like a lot of initial advance to run well, 16*+, much like which eville suggested.

With the stroker I'd set the total to 34 degs and test 2 degs at a time from there. Very few I've seen really like more even if they tolorate it. Get it good and hot and lug it, drive normal and hit it wot and listen for pinging. If it sounds good at 36, I'd run 34 on the street until you really had a chance to track tune for performance.

Ok guys thanks for the tips. My builder also suggested 34 but said it didn't matter how I got there.

Update

Thanks for those that posted replies. I changed out the bushing (large black one 18*) this afternoon as well as the springs (one blue, one silver) and set the initial to 16*, 18* was causing a little backfire and FIRE out of the carb so I backed it back to 16. So total is 34 as most 383stroker guys have suggested and adjusting the springs really made it more responsive down low in the RMP's.

Starts great, runs better than before and didn't seem to get at hot but it was pretty cool this evening when I drove so we'll see about that later.

Anyway - thanks again.

Wouldn't he need to have total timing all way by at least 2000? He is running a tko with 3.55 gear and cruise rpm may be at least 2k? I know 5th gear is not a good gear for passing but sometimes we do this, I think its best to use 4th for passing, depending if you are not driving like a wild man. Jim? whadoyasay?
