Hi, Couple of questions. I am having problems after modifiing my 350. I have change the heads and put a new cam XE 274 comp cams. I advance the cam 4 degrees. I have also replace distributor.

Should i keep the base timing at 10 degrees
What should be the timing idling with vacuum advance
At what RPM should i have my max timing and how much

I am having a clacking noise, i just reajust the valve but the noise is still there

thank you

Very basically, try 16 degrees on the balancer and total timing (about 32) in by 3000-3500.

More static advance and less throttle tip-in should give you more vacuum at idle.

The clacking may be a lifter not pumping up. Is the noise from under the valve cover?
