your cam card has nutin to do with ignition timing, that's valve timing....cam specs.
Even stock motors are generally happy with much more than the factory spec'ed initial ignition timing, and it doesn't surprise me that it runs best "off the pointer."
Problem is, when you increase the initial setting, total timing increases as well, and you really don't want total to exceed 36 degrees or so.
