Hello everyone,

I am finishing up my 68' SS/RS Convertible and need to purchase tires. I am running 15 x 7 Rallies (Code JJ) all around. Does anyone have experience with the 15" rims on their Camaro's? I specifically need to know which 70 series tires will fit front and back. I spent some time with the Coker Tire folks today at the Zephryhills, Florida Swap Meet.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Chris

For a 1968 w/ 70 series tires I would recommend P 205/70/R15 in the front and P255/70/R15 in the rear...You may have rubbing issues w/ a P215/70R15 up front.

Personally if you want it to handle a little better a P215/65/R15 will clear the front....That size was OEM on 1982-1987 Z28's, 1985-1990 5.0L IROC-Z's & even the Buick GN, Pontiac GP & Olds Cutlass which means it is still available by several different tire manufacturers.

P225/60/R15 should clear....That size was OEM on 5.0L Mustang GT's & LX's back in the day....And you may be able to get P275/60/R15 on the rear....But as far as 70's series....P205/70/R15 on the front & P255/70/R15 should work.

FWIW, I have a 1969 that rolls with P235/60/R15's all the way around on 15x7 Rally's.....In my experiences you can get more tire on the front of a 1969 then a 1967 or 1968 and more tire on the back of a 1967 or 1968 than a 1969....A 60 series tire will make it handle a bit better..

Here are some helpful tire links for you.

******BTW, If you are going to go w/ bias ply tires in a 70 series then I would go with G70x15 up front and rear or G70x15 up front and L70x15 in the rear....The G70x15 is equivalent to a P205/70/R15 in a radial size. L70x15 is equiavalent to a P255/70/R15
Good Luck!!

I did a lot of research on this one before I ended up going with 215/65s all the way around. the 205s just looked a little small for my taste. If you want a staggered look, you can go with much larger in the rear, like a 225/70 or 235/60.

I've got a local guy with the 215/65s and he says no rubbing issues ever.

I've got a post in the Brakes/Suspension area right now with photos of the 215/65s on my car in the rear. Just look at the post with my user name.

Good luck, post some pics if you can and let us know what you go with, Brian

Thanks All-- I appreciate the replies! A buddy has a 69' RS with the 15x7 Rallies w/245-60's in the back and 225-60's in the front. We're going to mount them on my car and see if there are clearance issues. I'll let everyone know...

Thanks again!

I have 235/60 series on all 4 corners of my 69, but to the point above, this year model seems to have a little more tire room.
