Can I put a 275 x 55 x 17 on the rear of a 1969 SS camaro with stock suspension? Do I need to use an 18” rim making it 275x 45 x 18 . Are alterations needed .
I've got 275/40-17's on the rear of my '69 and it's stock suspension for now.

They fit if you have the right wheel and backspace.
Mike Thanks Mike , the pictures are great as well as your car . So it looks like a middle number of 55 may be too much for clearance .? The torque thrust 17” wheels I have fit with the 245 width ok so is the back space hood if I add the extra inches of rubber ? I appreciate your response having a great look to your car . Thanks

Mike, your wheels and tires look great. I’m getting ready to upgrade to 17” rims and tires. Would you mind telling me what your rim widths and backspacing are for the front and rear wheels? Thank you in advance. MattI've got 275/40-17's on the rear of my '69 and it's stock suspension for now.

Thanks Matt... Fronts are 245/45-17 on 8" rims with 4,750" backspace. Rears are 275/40-17 on 9.500" rims with a 5.500" backspacing. Rims are Budnik Famosa and tires are Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's, a really nice summer performance tire, relatively sticky and not too expensive.Mike, your wheels and tires look great. Thanks Shawn... its just a nice driver, nothing more than that. Between the Covid and doing all the 2020 mods, I'm just looking forward to driving it again once some good spring rains have washed all the salt away. I thought I'd have it drivable again this past Fall but other things got in the way. I bit off a lot to give it up for 2020 (Vintage Air, Serpentine conversion, new radiator, custom shroud, RS front end, and some smaller stuff) but I can see light at the end of the tunnel now LOL.-MikeThat's a beautiful ride you have there Mike.
