I bought a 67 RS/SS it has a 350 with an Edelbroc Performer intake, 4 barrel carb. with a Powerglide trans.. It was rebuilt prior to me buying it. At normal city and highway speeds it seems to drive ok (except for drinking the gas). If I'm out on the highway and put the peddle to the floor. It will hit 90mph and then start to drop off until you let up off the gas. 90mph is as fast as I can get it to go.(Note) I'm not sure how accuate the speedometer is with the age and use of 15" wheels.

Sounds like it is running out of gas. Your fuel pump can't keep the float bowls full at WOT. Check your fuel pressure and also your fuel tank vent.

If it has a Q-jet, I would check the in carb fuel filter.

Also check your timing. Some motors do not like lots of advance and some HEI's from 80's cars just have too much. Or you might have too little, so when you let up the vacuum adv come back in and its OK.

After fuel, check total timing at whatever rpm this occurs at.

Also, some have chased fuel problems and never check the fuel "sock" on the pickup in the tank.

Try a carter perf fuel pump. Not the race pump but the street perf one.
Many stock type pumps are barely adequate.

Also check the fuel filter, as chev64 said. If it's a brass one, try blowing through it, they can plug up without looking bad.

K, the oldies aren't my forte, but isn't a powerglide just a 2 gear tranny? And to get it to hold over like 80 or 90 it needs to be built for it? Not sure, but I thought I'd throw that out there.

red devil,
I think most PG trannies shift out of first around 40mph.
a three speed would shift out of second around 80mph

2nd gear is still 1:1 like all the others.
