I have a 355 chevy sb. I am wanting to know what is the best method to find the Total Timming?

It depends on a lot of things such as the cam and compression ratio. My setup is in the sig, but targeted for the street. I have mine set for 12* base timing. Vacuum advance adds another 10-12* at idle. Total advance is about 36* all in by 2000. These are typical numbers IMHO for a street motor. A strip motor will be significantly different.

Are you looking for the best setting or how to determine what you have now?If its what you have now you need a timing light with an advance dial on it.You hook it up have some rev the engine and turn the dial to keep the make on zero.When you stop advancing that is your total timming.Should be all in by 2500 rpms.
