just got an 87 IROC Z28 TPI engine with complete OEM engine wire harness:yes:. I cannot find the wiring schematic for it:(. I would really like to fire it up:hurray:, but afraid to fry the ECM if I connect hot leads to wrong connection :sad:. Does anyone have a wiring schematic, or know where I can get a copy so I can wire it to get it running.

Stupid question, maybe, but why are you guys putting TPI motors in your cars? They were pretty weak horsepower-wise, and there's far better technology out there now with all the LS-series engines that are on the market now. Unless you're doing some serious upgrades to boost the performance, you're not getting much bang for your buck, IMO. They were all the rage 10-15 years ago because the TPI setup looked neat in an older ride, but that was about it.

Stupid answer, maybe, but I had a complete TPI engine in the garage. It was a lot cheaper to rebuild vs. buying an LSX and doing a conversion. Beyond that I wasn't looking to pop wheelies, the TPI looks cool, they make enough torque to still make it a fun ride, it will be reliable, and I will have extra $$ left over to put into other things on the car that need attention. It was a pretty easy decision for me.

I'm in the middle of doing the same thing, honestly I like the look of tpi much better and im not one to do what everyone else is doing anyways. Besides I don't plan to race it I'm just looking for a street car with decent performance and gas mileage. To the OP I purchased a tpi wiring kit from Painless, looks easy enough but I haven't fired mine up yet either. Good luck

Read this and had to respond. I will be doing a similar build for my 355. Wont be using vortecs, more than likely some Dart Iron Eagles or similar. Picked up a complete TPI off an '86 Vette for $100. Will have the base and plenum ported, already scored some AS&M Big Tube runners. Will use the reliable GM computer with the chip burned to what I like by myself. I like the results of this build for my street driven 69, more than enough power. Plus the TPI polished up is one of the best looking intakes ever, much more than the ubiquitous 14 inch chrome air cleaner.

A friend of mine has a tpi in his 62 impala runs great and makes that big boat really move and it gets a lot of attention at car shows
