Hey all,

I was told that the TH350 that came with my car had been rebuilt and a shift-kit was installed.
I plan/planned to put a TransGo kit in it but not if it's already been done.

The trans is not in the car now, so if I take the pan off and look at the valve body, what do I need to look for in order to know for sure whether a shift-kit actually HAS been installed? Are there obvious, noticable differences between installed B&M and TransGo kits? I've done rebuilds before but never installed a shift-kit. I know that sometimes there are new holes drilled in the body and/or springs and balls replaced. How can I tell by looking?

Thanks!

Transgo ususally retains all the check balls if I recall. Some of the holes in the separator plate will be resized. Some of the shift valve springs will be a different color. Its tough to tell by looking unless someone out there with a transgo kit can tell us spring colors and such. You might just want to buy the kit and put it in anyway to be certain. Just don't let yourself think that you might have wasted your money and you'll be fine.

Joe,
There is a Fluid Transfer plate at the forward end of the transmission case that is forward of the valve body. If there is an added steel plate sandwiched there you have a shift kit installed. The plate has very short bolts holding on compaired to the valve body bolts and the "S" link from the shift lever comes close to hitting one when pushed all the way forward.
What brand is another question as once they are put in I do not know of any identifing marks on them.
I would install the Trans-Go shift anyways, Money well spent in my opion.

Sometimes they stamp their name on the gasket between the valve body and the case. Maybe it would say transgo, etc on it.

The B&M kit (at least the one I used) uses only one of the check balls.
